According to UNHCR there are approximately 65.6 million forcibly displaced persons and 22.5 million refugees that were forced from their homes by wars, conflict and persecution in the world today.
Refugees and the internally displaced do not move out of choice, they are forced from their countries or homes in search of safety due to conflict, violence and persecution. Fleeing for their lives, their movement is often chaotic leaving their possessions and livelihoods behind. For most, it is hope for security, rather than despair that motivates their decision to move.
DDSC USA identifies displaced people and refugees needs for food, water, health care, housing, education and protection from harm and works to help provide for their needs as they transition to life in their new surroundings.
